Sveta Helena – Internationell riddarturnering
I området runt kapellet och slottet Sveta Helena anordnas den 16 och 17 maj en internationell riddarturnering. Bland ett tiotal medeltida läger, uppställningar av olika fort, medeltida krigsmaskiner och riddardueller erbjuds en rad olika aktiviteter som medeltida kök, myntverk, bågskytte och även den medeltida inkvisitionen.

Man väntar besök från olika grupper från Ungern, Tjeckien, Slovenien och Portugal. Turneringen anordnas till minne av slaget vid Sveta Helena, vilket var en av de största kroatiska segrarna mot de turkiska erövrarna. Slaget tog plats 19 augusti 1557 på slätten bredvid floden Lonja nedanför Sveta Helena. Kroatiska armen leddes av kapten Ivan Lenković som segrade över den övermäktiga turkiska armen och tvingade den på flykten.

I programmet återger man natten före själva slaget och en dag i livet hos de kroatiska bönderna, hantverkarna och soldaterna och visar hur man försvarade denna del av Kroatien mot turkarna.

Hantverkare visar upp sina produkter och kunskap beskyddade av soldater med medeltida vapen. I de medeltida lägren kommer man att få se en hel arsenal av medeltida vapen, olika färgglada skölder och rustningar. Blir du hungrig kan du smaka en varm gröt tillagad av gammeldags sädesslag eller en medeltida gås kryddad med honung.

Vid riddarturneringen behöver du inte bara vara åskådare – du kan skjuta med båge, åka häst och vagn eller rida. Sveta Helena ligger nära staden Sveti Ivan Zelina i nordöstra delen av Zagrebs län, 30 km från Zagreb.
