Zagreb - Centrala stadstorget bland de vackraste i Europa
Det centrala stadstorget i Zagreb, Trg bana Josipa Jelačića (Greve Josip Jelačićs torg), har inräknats bland de 20 vackraste torgen i Europa . Detta enligt den populära belgiska bloggen stedentripper.com. Bloggens cirka tusen besökare bedömde torg i europeiska städer och centraltorget i Zagreb hamnade enligt deras betyg på tjugonde plats. Överst på listan hamnade Grand Place (Grote Markt) i Bryssel och därefter kom Röda torget i Moskva och torget Stanislas i den franska staden Nancy. Bland de 20 vackraste torgen fanns även Trafalgar Square i London, Marienplatz i München, St Peters torget i Rom och Piazza San Marco i Venedig.

Zagrebborna är stolta över sitt centrala torg men det är trevligt att höra att det uppskattas även av personer som inte bor i Zagreb. På det centrala torget dominerar greve Josip Jelačićs staty, av skulptören Dominik Fernkorn, som idag är vänd mot söder. När statyn år 1866 första gången ställdes på torget var den vänd mot norr, mot Ungern. Statyn togs bort efter andra världskriget år 1947 men när Kroatien fick sin självständighet år 1990 ställdes den högtidligt tillbaka på torget. Torget kallades från 1947 till 1990 för Republikens torg.

Torget har inte alltid funnits inom staden utan var från början ett tomt fält utanför Gradecs och Kaptols murar. Där kunde nykomlingar vistas eftersom det var förbjudet för dem att komma in i staden.

Efter att staden spridit sig till Ilica och Stara Vlaška blev Trg bana Josipa Jelačića (Greve Josip Jelačićs torg) stadens centrum.
