Unije - Majhen otok za veliki počitek
Otok Unije kljub svoji majhnosti in skorajšnji neposeljenosti privablja iz leta v leto več turistov. Razlog za to so kulturno-zgodovinske znamenitosti, lepe plaže in sprehajališča, ohranjena narava, izredna gostoljubnost, dobra prometna povezanost ter odsotnost gneče in avtomobilov.

Unije so s svojo površino največje med otoki, ki obkrožajo Lošinj. Zaradi dobrega položaja na samem vhodu v Kvarnerski zaliv, izvorov pitne vode in rodovitne zemlje so poseljene že od nekdaj. Kontinuiteto poseljenosti, do katere je prišlo že v prazgodovini, potrjujejo številna arheološka najdišča, ki so jih odkrili tako na kopnem kot tudi v morju, eden od takih primerov so na primer ostanki rimske vile.

Akvatorij otoka je že od nekdaj stičišče pomorskih poti, ki potekajo od Istre do Dalmacije, pa vse do notranjosti Kvarnerskega zaliva. Zaradi grebenov in čeri, ki se nahajajo v okolici otoka, ne čudi niti podatek, da je veliko pomorščakov v bližini Unij tudi izgubilo svoje življenje. Ostanki enega od brodolomov se vidijo ob samem vhodu v unijsko luko.

Na otoku Unije se nahaja samo eno istoimensko naselje. Nastalo je na zahodnem, od burje zaščitenem delu otoka, ki je znan po svojih oljčnih nasadih. V mestu je na voljo nekaj restavracij, slaščičarn, pekarna, pošta in trgovina, namestitev (sobe ali apartmaje) pa ponujajo domačini v značilnih hiškah s širokimi kamniti pročelji.

Na otoku se nahaja tudi majhno letališče, ki je od puljskega oddaljeno 30, od lošinjskega pa le 8 kilometrov. Redna ladijska linija povezuje otok Unije z Lošinjem, nekaj krat na teden pa je otok s katamaranom povezan tudi z Reko.
