Lika - Karlovac
Lika - Karlovac
The forested area of Lika is much more than a link between the continental and coastal areas of Croatia. This region will astonish you with its beauty and the power of its natural features. We recommend that when driving through Lika on the modern highway, stop for a moment and admire its scenery.
On the road from central Croatia toward Lika, or depending on which direction you are coming from, just before entering the region, is the city of Karlovac. The trademark of this historic city are its four rivers. The residents of Karlovac have recently poured their love for these rivers into a special attraction, the freshwater aquarium Aquatica, which has become a real tourist attraction and an inspiration for the creation of interesting programs and workshops.
On the road from Karlovac toward the central and southern Adriatic you will pass through Lika, which is located in central Croatia. It is dominated by the Mt. Velebit, one of the most beautiful and highest mountains in Croatia, and whose northern part has been designated a national park. It is the youngest of Croatia's eight national parks and is notable for its Karst formations, wildlife and scenery. The southern part of Velebit has also been designated as a national park, Paklenica, known for its dark pine forest, rich vegetation and Karst formations.
The small town of Smiljan in Lika is the birthplace of the famous inventor Nikola Tesla, whose life and work are commemorated at the Nikola Tesla Memorial Center, which covers a total area of 13,000 square meters.
Lika is also famous for its partially underground rivers and its caves. The Gacke River is ideal for water sports and will be a challenge for those who are planning a team-building program. Although Lika provides many possibilities for rest and enjoyment, as well as adrenaline activities, its greatest attraction is the Plitvice Lakes National Park. Since becoming a national park in 1949, its beauty has attracted tourists from around the world. For nature lovers, Lika will certainly be an inspired choice as a venue for conferences and meetings, for which the hotels in this region already have the infrastructure and all required content, as well as an outstanding gastronomic offer.
For those who want a stay in unspoiled nature, breathe in cool air even on the hottest summer days, and long for the taste of homemade food, Lika is an excellent choice for conferences and meetings, as well as incentive and team-building programs.
