Rigojanči - Love as a Confectionery Inspiration

Rijeka

At the end of the 20th century, Rijeka patisserie shops often served a cake called rigojanči. Many of the people who have enjoyed the taste of this high-calorie cake could not have known that the cake’s unusual name comes from the famous Hungarian musician Rigó Jancsi. So, while people in Rijeka enjoyed the rigojanči thinking that the dessert was an authentic product created in Rijeka, in reality they shared a tradition of Austro-Hungarian cuisine. The exhibition “Rigojanči - Love as a Confectionery Inspiration” has been organized in the exhibition spare of the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral and its main aim is to encourage visitors to think about a specific part of their own cultural identity linked to the ways of preparing and consuming food and desserts. The exhibition is open from September 22nd until February 4th next year.
