Zagreb est la capitale de la Croatie et le centre des affaires, le centre universitaire, la ville de la culture, de l’art et des divertissements. Fondée à partir de deux cités médiévales, Kaptol et Gradec, qui forment le vieux noyau de la ville haute « Gornji grad », elle est une vraie ville d’Europe centrale qui avec les localités limitrophes compte environ un million d’habitants.

Le vieux quartier baroque est tissé de vieilles rues pavées bordées de bâtiments anciens, de nombreuses églises et d’une majestueuse cathédrale mêlées à des magasins modernes, des cafés et des restaurants agréables. Voyagez avec le tramway bleu de Zagreb ou promenez-vous sur la plus longue rue zagreboise, Ilica, montez avec le Funiculaire jusqu’à Gornji grad (la Haute ville) et visitez la tour Lotršćak, l’église Sveti Marko (Saint Marc), la porte Kamenita vrata (la Porte de pierre), les musées, les galeries …

Un grand nombre d’oasis vertes et de promenades, de nombreuses excursions dans les environs, les monuments et édifices liturgiques la rendent agréable à vivre et en font une vraie ville à taille humaine.

Zagreb est aussi une ville reconnue pour ses manifestations sportives de renommée mondiale. Elle est située au pied du mont zagrebois Medvenica, qui reçoit même deux compétions de ski de la FIS (Fédération Internationale de Ski), elle dispose d’un centre sportif et récréatif au lac Jarun, où se déroulent des régates, ainsi que le tournoi de tennis Zagreb Indoors.
