Zagreb- Un gran avance en el turismo de congresos Zagreb está empezando a ocupar cada vez mejor lugar en el mapa mundial de destinos para congresos, algo que demuestran los datos de la asociación internacional ICCA (International Congress and Convention Association) según la cual la capital croata ha avanzado desde el puesto 171 hasta el puesto 79 en el ranking de un total de 309 ciudades destinos de turismo de congresos. Según estos datos Zagreb ha alcanzado todavía mejores resultados, el puesto número 42 de Europa según el número de congresos organizados el año pasado, entre 159 ciudades europeas, destinos de congresos.
En general Croacia en cuanto a la organización de congresos ocupa el puesto número 40 del mundo con 50 congresos internacionales, y Zagreb con 23 congresos organizados ocupa el primer puesto de ciudades destinos de turismo de congresos en Croacia. La capital de Croacia ha sido confirmada recientemente como la ciudad anfitriona del congreso anual de la organización European Cities Marketing-ECM del año 2.012. Se trata de la organización que reúne todas las oficinas de turismo europeas y profesionales de la organización de congresos.
ICCA se ha fundado en el año 1.963 por un grupo de agencias turísticas, y hasta hoy día es una de las organizaciones internacionales más importantes en el mercado de la industria de congresos. Representa la asociación de profesionales que se ocupan de la organización de congresos internacionales y otros eventos de esta índole. Cuenta con 900 miembros de 86 países.
