Después de varios años de reformas y reconstrucción, se podrá disfrutar desde el próximo verano de la Torre del Águila en Dunave gracias a la Asociación de Amigos de las Antigüedades de Dubrovnik. Propietaria de la torre desde hace diez años, cuando se la compraron a la Iglesia, están finalizando las obras de la reconstrucción parcial de su muralla. La primera mención escrita data del año 1391, aunque la construcción existía desde antes. Las obras han durado casi medio siglo, y ahora parece que por fin están finalizando.

Soko-grad (Ciudad del Águila) se ha levantado en el lugar de la antigua ciudad iliria, y después romana, bizantina y bosnia. Gracias a su importancia estratégica, la República de Dubrovnik nunca ha dejado de invertir en la Torre del Águila, por lo que el monumental sistema de fortificación contaba con una cisterna, edificio para la munición y almacén de vino y comida. En ella se encontraban la vivienda del guardián, la torre de vigilancia, vivienda de soldados y edificios para el alojamiento de mujeres y niños de pueblos de los alrededores en caso de peligro de guerra o en caso de ataque de hordas bárbaras que a veces saqueaban la zona.

Cuando finalicen las obras, los visitantes podrán disfrutar de interesantes exposiciones y poder recorrer su paseo a través de miradores que ofrecen una excelente vista a toda la zona de Konavle. Los visitantes de la torre podrán conocer su rica historia, llena también de numerosas leyendas.
