The vast fairytale plains along the magnificent river

On the south of the Pannonian Basin, there are precious Slavonian treasures hidden among the thick forests of the surrounding hills and fertile plains along the River Sava. Explore the protected flora and fauna in many nature reserves, take a walk through the winegrowing hills of Slavonski Brod to the summer residence of the Brlić family, visit some of the old wine cellars and you will understand why this place is called the world of fairy tales.

Through centuries, from the medieval fortress to its defensive role on the border between the Austrian and Turkish empires, Slavonski Brod has developed into an important regional, economic and cultural centre. The famous Brlić house, the Franciscan monastery and the fortress Brod witness the rich culture of the city. If you set out to one of the surrounding towns: Nova Gradiška, Babina Greda or another, you will experience traditional customs and the way of life that will thrill you.

The area abounds in restaurants and tourist farms, as well as culinary events with a diverse selection of Slavonian specialties. Give yourself up to the whirl of smells and tastes, from delicious ham, local sausages kulen and kulenova seka, to pots of beans, local shepherd stew čobanac or fish stew. The harvest festival in Županja is one of the interesting events that preserve traditional heritage and customs, as well as the preparation of old-time dishes.

Besides the historical and natural heritage, a part of the magic of the area is its extremely hospitable people. In many village farms, you will be able to see the traditional way of life, and if you explore the surrounding area, you will come across different cultural events. Exhibitions and rock concerts, folk and tamburitza music will bring you to your feet, and if you take a walk through the streets in Slavonian towns and villages, you will often see traditional folk costumes and dances.
