Mysterious paths of Golden Pannonia

The Požega valley, once the ancient Vallis Aurea, is situated among the mountains Psunj, Papuk, Dilj, Krndija and Požega Hill. It got its nickname owing to the excellent wine sorts whose quality was recognised way back by the ancient Romans. The lowland and the hilly parts, as well as the streets of the towns, stretching deep into the surrounding mountains and passing by numerous meandering streams, provide a particular charm to this area.

The unpredictable landscape with many forest, village and bike routes will challenge the adventurer in you and awaken the desire to explore. Settle down in one of the family hotels or farms and you will experience nature at its best. Travel through the fields and plains and discover the hidden hamlets and cultural monuments, and if you lack adrenaline, you can set out on a bike to the Nature Park Papuk, where you can also try paragliding. Visit the State Lipizzaner Horse Farm in Lipik, which will offer you a unique experience with this noble animal with a playful personality.

The exciting landscape intertwines with the turbulent past of the towns and districts of the Golden Pannonian Valley. From the first inhabitants in the Roman period to this day, Požega, Lipik, Pakrac, Pleternica, Kutjevo, Kaptol, Sibinj, Brodski Stupnik and the surrounding places have developed into centres of economic and cultural activities. The medieval fortresses, such as the town of Kaptol, bear witness to the rich history and the culture of living in the Požega Valley in various stylistic and time periods.

The culture and tradition of the Požega region are accompanied by numerous events. The Aurea Fest, held since 1969, includes as many as ten different festivals, the especially prominent one being the Golden Strings of Slavonia. Visit the Pleternica Shrine of Our Lady of Tears, a place of prayer, peace and quiet, the famous Stupnik grape picking or the Longest Dining Table in Croatia in Velika, where you can try all the specialties of the area.
