Preko – Returning among the tourist greats
Preko, a village on Ugljan -one of the most picturesque islands in the Zadar archipelago, should by the end of 2012 be richer for another hotel. As recently announced, this should be a luxurious tourist accommodation facility with 58 rooms, three meeting rooms, a restaurant with an outdoor terrace, a swimming pool and a relaxation garden, cocktail and lounge bar and a large promenade terrace along the coast-line of Preko marina.

This investment is estimated at around 15 milion euros. Hotel accommodation is exactly what Preko is missing, having received the title of the most tourist destination on the Adriatic back in 1968.

Preko is a transport and administrative centre of Ugljan island, which is located opposite Zadar (the word Preko actually translates ‘opposite’), with its old parts full of typical Dalmatian architecture and many summer houses of Patrician families. Preko is the closest starting point for a trip to Sv. Mihovil (265 m above sea level) from which a view stretches onto more than 200 islands of the Zadar archipelago and onto the national park Kornati. Only 80 m from Preko lays the idyllic islet Galevac, covered in rich Mediterranean vegetation which conceals the valuable Third order Franciscan monastery from the 15th century.

The island Ugljan is separated from Zadar by Zadar canal, only a few nautical miles wide. This eternally green island, with idyllic bays and picturesque fisherman ports, where the locals have been orientated towards seamanship and fishing from ancient times, is also known for its 2000 year old tradition of the production of olive oil of high quality and exquisite aroma. The island offers guests a natural ambience, peace and traditional hospitality.
