“Grannies on Safari” shot in Istria

01 August 2012

The cast and crew of the American travelogue show "Grannies on Safari" recently stayed in Istria, where they collected material for two half-hour episodes that will be aired during 2013 in the US, UK and other countries.

The hosts of the show, energetic grannies Regina Stewart Fraser and Patricia Anita Johnson got introduced to various segments of the Istrian tourist offer - from gastronomy and accommodation to the arts, historic heritage and preserved nature.

They visited the Arena and other attractions in Pula, as well as the Stancia Meneghetti in Bale, and then stayed in Rovinj's designer Hotel Lone. The next day they departed towards inner Istria. The first stop was Grožnjan, where Fraser and Johnson were very interested in the medieval history of the town and how it became the center of artists. They visited galleries and talked to painters. Then they tasted truffles and homemade brandy on the Karlić family farm from Paladin near Buzet, and Elvis Perčić, the Prefect of the smallest city in the world, Hum, gave them an interesting interview on the institution of prefect and the current situation in Hum. The last night in Istria, was spent in the hotel Kaštel in Motovun.

The popular show "Grannies on Safari" is aired on numerous public and private TV stations in the US, the UK and some Asian and African countries. It reaches more than 59 million households and is crowned with the prestigious Emmy Award. It features a casual and immediate interaction with the locals, as well as an effort to show viewers undiscovered and unknown places, customs and cultures.
