Water adventures

Croatia is a country well endowed with water. Clean and clear water! It is a fact that Croatian drinking water is amongst the best in the world and the Adriatic Sea represents an ideal balance as regards size, temperature and cleanliness. On the other hand, thanks to the Atlantic Ocean and the Amazon River, Brazil is a massive ‘water’power. Despite their differences, both countries are without doubt ideal destinations for all those who are looking for water adventures.
The Croatian coast is distinctly indented and has over 1000 islands and islets. These indentations and the gentle winds which blow down the Adriatic make it an ideal sailing destination. The Kornati archipelago and the Pakleni islands, with innumerable hidden harbours, represent a real joy for sailors and yachtsmen eager for water-based adventures. This type of navigation differs from the serious, ocean sailing conditions that you will find in Brazil. It is more relaxed in Croatia and there is the opportunity for other types of adventure involving Croatian wine and cuisine.
In addition to the good food, lovely wine and enchanting landscapes, the Adriatic also offers other types of water-based adventures. It is worth mentioning two wind and kite surfing destinations which are already known throughout the world, namely Bol on the island of Brač and Viganj on the Pelješac peninsula. Because of the calmness of the sea, there is hardly any opportunity for water surfing in Croatia, in contrast to Brazil and Florianopolis, which is one of the most attractive destinations if you are talking about this kind of activity.
For those who prefer to be below the surface, underwater Croatia, quite apart from its flora and fauna, hides an unbelievable historical wealth, since its maritime traffic started in the time of the ancient Greeks, 4000 years ago. We will leave you to come to your own conclusions as to whether all this maritime activity brought Ulysses, one of the most brilliant Greek heroes, to these parts but we would certainly suggest that at the first possible opportunity you should visit the island of Mljet and enjoy its underwater beauty as well as that of its shoreline.
Those who are keen on river adventures will not be disappointed. The Kupa, Zrmanja and Cetina rivers are just ideal for rafting, all without any fear of piranhas. The Amazon, on the other hand, is the largest river in the world and, with its particular eco-system, provides Brazil with a huge wealth of natural resources.
Whether you decide to visit the wild, unpredictable and challenging Amazon or the gentler, more tranquil and enchanting Croatian waters, one thing is certain – you won’t be short of adventures!
