Sveti Martin na Muri

This northernmost Croatian municipality consists of the protected landscape of the river Mura which, together with its armlets, is inhabited by a large number of river fish, amphibians and swamp birds, while its meadows and groves are inhabited by small and big game. This makes it a place ideal for hunting, fishing, horseback riding, cycling and tasting Međimurje cuisine on rural estates.

Amongst the tame forests and vineyard hills of the Međimurje region, wellness oases are hidden: the modern thermal bathing resort Sveti Martin na Muri and the recently opened Spa Golf Hotel. In 2006, the municipality of Sveti Martin na Muri (Saint Martin on the River Mura) was declared a European destination of excellence in the rural segment and it also won the European award for the best rural destination, which it shared with a few smaller towns from several European countries.
The wines roads are an important part of the tourist gastro offer – they have been opening in all parts of Central Croatia over the past ten years, most of them in the northwest areas and Moslavina. They are lively at any time of the year.

Of course, the harvest time in autumn is the most dynamic, as well 11 November – St. Martin’s Day, the last and most significant winegrowers’ holiday of the year, when they mark the christening of young musk and its transformation into wine. St. Martin’s Day is associated with many local customs, so this year, the merry festival of wine lovers will once again attract numerous tourists who will have a pleasant and palate-friendly time with their hosts.
