Sinj lies in the heart of Dalmatinska zagora (the Dalmatian Background) in a beautiful landscape of wooded hills, the Sinjsko polje (the Sinj Field) and the river Cetina. Surrounded by the slopes of the mountains of Svilaja, Dinara and Kamešnica, it is ideal for those tourists who want an active holiday. During the summer months, they can find refreshment in the river Cetina, or in the sea (only 40 km to Split).

The courage of the Sinj knights called “alkars” is widely known. The proud sons of Cetinska krajina celebrate the majestic victory over the Ottomans in 1715 by holding the famous knight’s tournament “Sinjska alka” on the eve of the Feast of the Assumption.
Sinj’s knightly game called Alka originates from the historical victory of the people of Cetinska Krajina over the Turks on 15 August 1715 and is held every year in early August. Sinj’s Alka men compete in hitting the Alka (ring) riding horses decorated with silver and wearing original costumes preserved in memory of the victory.
