Patrimoine - Dalmatie – Split

Savez-vous que le cœur historique de Split classé au patrimoine mondial de l’UNESCO a été édifié sur les fondements de la villa de l’empereur Dioclétien datant de 305 ? Bien que 17 siècles de vie ininterrompue à l’intérieur de ses murs aient modifié certaines parties de cet édifice comme le mausolée de l’empereur plus tard incorporé à la cathédrale St Dominius (Sv. Duje), le Palais de Dioclétien représente aujourd’hui le véritable symbole de la ville de Split. Un peu plus loin se trouve un autre joyau du patrimoine de l’UNESCO : la ville de Trogir, aussi appelée la ville musée. La région abrite aussi les îles de l’archipel de Split : celle pierreuse de Brač et ses nombreux ateliers de sculpture de pierre, et Hvar, l'ensoleillée dotée de la plus grande place de l’Adriatique, du premier théâtre communal d’Europe datant de 1612, de l’Arsenal et du célèbre palais Tvrdalj de Petar Hektorović, humaniste, poète et philosophe.
