The national winner of European Destination of Excellence for 2010/2011 was Pustara Višnjica.
On the theme of ‘Tourism and Adaptation of Renovated Physical Locations’ an existing location was chosen that was renovated and adapted, and it works on the development of thoroughfares, signalisation (transport and tourist), the well-equipped facilities provide quality tourist offers where various events are held and they place knowledge about the destination via tourist information centres, a website, promotional material etc.
Pustara Višnjica was mentioned for the first time in the middle of the 19th century as a farm. At the time of its economic and demographic boom it was managed by two aristocratic families. Thanks to its owners Višnjica continuously developed. With its excellent natural conditions, Pustara Višnjica was one of the richest and most developed estates in the region of Slavonia. Today it is a property that covers about 200 hectares. Along with agriculture (growing of sweet potatoes) and cattle farming (breeding of cows) the tourist offer was also developed, and it consists of a hotel with a 40-bed capacity, a restaurant with a large choice of traditional dishes and an excellent wine choice plus a horse farm with various riding programmes, cycling trails - EuroVelo 13 – the Iron Curtain trail and the Drava trail, in the direct vicinity of the UNESCO cross-border Mura–Drava–Danube Biosphere Reserve and UNESCO Papuk Geopark.
