Zadar – A new international ferry port
The building of a new international port should be finished by the end of 2012 in the area of Gaženica in Zadar. It is one of the state`s biggest naval investments in Croatia worth 236 million euros, which is credited by the German Development Bank and the European Investment Bank. With the completion of the new port the current ferry terminal in the centre of Zadar will be relocated to Gaženica, 3.5 km away.

The new port will have a 350 metre dock for cruisers, a fisherman`s port, a dock for coastline ships and ferries and a cargo and passenger terminal with a garage.

Next to Split, Gaženica wil be the biggest port on the eastern coast of the Adriatic and its advantage will be the direct connection by a fast road onto the motorway Zadar-Zagreb. The new port aims to separate ferry and ship lines which carry vehicles from fast tourist passenger lines as well as disburden the centre of Zadar and the historical city core from traffic jams.

In the current passenger port a great part of the coastal area, which is at the moment reserved for receiving passenger, tour and nautical boats, will be freed up to create an attractive coastal ambience for pedestrians and tourists visiting the historical city centre.

As part of the new port there will also be a hotel, a business-shopping centre, a multilevel parking lot and other business port facilities.
