Karanac – Ethno village
The ethno village Karanac, located in the heart of Baranja, some 20 km from Osijek, has in the past few years become a magnet for numerous foreign and domestic tourists who enjoy the rich gastronomic and tourist offer of this area. In Karanac visitors can experience the feeling of far gone, past times, where each household had a story that was slowly carried on from generation to generation, keeping its authenticity and lifestyle far from the hustle and bustle of an urban area.

Here you can eat well, have the possibility of riding in an original village cart and sleep in authentically decorated rooms. In the lively village pubs the offer is exclusively based on domestic food production and the food is regularly accompanied by live music. With its old preserved Panonian houses, its three churches and the longest cherry tree avenue, Karanac falls into the first category of ethno villages.

In the village there is an ethno restaurant called ‘Baranjska kuća’ where you can try all the local dishes cooked exclusively on an open fire or in a clay oven. Accommodation can be found on family estates ‘Sklepić’ and ‘Ivica i Marica’.

The Sklepić family offers altogether 16 beds in their original house from 1910.

On the estate, dating from 1897, visitors can also see an ethno collection of around 2000 objects, a pottery workshop, a blacksmith`s workshop, the deepest cellar, a watchtower and horsing equipment.

On the village estate ‘Ivica i Marica’, five apartments and a house can be rented. These accommodation facilities are very pleasant to stay at, in the summer as well as the winter months. The house and the apartments exude of past times but at the same time offer all the necessary comfort to the modern and demanding guest.

To the visitors of Karanac, many interesting locations and sites of Baranja are at an arm`s length. One of such sites is the nature park Kopački rit, also the numerous wine cellars, the Ilok wine road, the castle of Eugene Savojski in Bilje and the Habsburg family castle in Tikveš. Baranja is also truly suitable for all types of cycling tourists, from those hungry for cultural, historical or natural challenges to the hedonistic ones.
