Osijek – Cultural summer nights in the east of Croatia
The summer months in Osijek, an eastern Croatian town, are rich in content for all ages and tastes. Across the city are held a number of theatrical and musical performances designed for children and adults. The restaurants offer excellent Slavonian cuisine, and a special experience is to walk along the bank of the river Drava during these days.

With its diversity and richness of culture, valuable historical sites, beautiful parks, preserved and protected areas in the vicinity of the town and gastronomic specialties, Osijek, is unique.

Particularly noteworthy is the Osijek Fort, an old town center that is an immeasurable historical gem. Following the example of lowland Dutch fortresses surrounded with water, the Austrian authorities built it from 1712. to 1722. A school was opened in it in 1729., printers in 1735. and the German Theatre. It had a public water supply and sewerage, so the people of Slavonia and Osijek rightly called the fort Metropolis urbs. Today, it is, by its historical and architectural features, a heritage site. Once the stage of turbulent historical events, the fort turns into a stage during the summer with top art programs, and the baroque atmosphere perfectly complements the numerous theatrical and artistic performances, exhibitions, concerts, and literary and film evenings.
