Istrian winemakers recognized


For the second year running, Istrian wine producers have been acknowledged by the prestigious Italian wine guide, ViniBuoni d’Italia. The wine guide exclusively promotes winemakers that produce authentic wines. An impressive 20 Croatian winemakers were recognised.

Hotel Lone wins multiple awards

Hotel Lone, which opened in September 2011, has scooped the award for Newbuild Hotel at the 2012 European Hotel Design Awards. The newly crowned design hotel was inspired by traditional Croatian resorts built in the 70s and was described by judges as “a stunning piece of architecture on the Istrian coastline”. The hotel was also recognised for its five star conference facilities by the Organisation International Hotel Awards, winning the Best Conference Hotel for 2012.

New Cruise and Stay route

A new Dubrovnik and Croatian Islands Cruise route will start in May 2013. For just £749, two people can explore the beautiful Dalmatian coastline and crystal blue waters of the Adriatic Sea for 7 nights half board including flights. Visit the stunning islands of Korcula, Hvar, Trstenik, Mljet and Sipan before ending the cruise in the Old marble Town of Dubrovnik.

Croatia going traditional for Eurovision 2013

Having missed out of the Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest for the past three years, Croatia has decided to return to their roots and showcase traditional acapella songs known as Klapas which celebrate Croatia’s most identifiable qualities – love, wine, the country and the sea. 

Ryanair to set up base in Zadar

Ryanair has reason to celebrate as it continues to expand into Zadar, opening its 54th base in April 2013. The airline will be providing 68 new weekly flights to Croatia from Dublin, East Midlands, Gothenburg, Haugesund, Liverpool, Paris and Wroclaw.

New Norwegian Air flights to Split

Norwegian Air will launch a new route from Gatwick airport to Split from May 2013.

12 Dec 2012 – 6 Jan 2013 – Dubrovnik Christmas Market

In December, Dubrovnik will glisten with fairy tale romance and magical lights, creating the atmosphere of an enchanted renaissance city. Dubrovnik’s Christmas Fair at Sponza Palace will boast an array of arts and craft stalls as well as food and drink. Get into the Christmas spirit and celebrate the festive season with a packed programme of entertainment, carol singing and dance.

3 – 7 January 2013 – VIP Snow Queen Trophy

Climb Medvednica Mountain to experience the VIP Snow Queen Trophy, the fastest and most popular slalom racing event. As part of the Alpine Skiing World Cup, this event sees both men and women battle it out on the pistes. With live entertainment, dance and mini competitions, this annual event attracts over 25,000 spectators and offers an exciting alternative to a traditional city break.

1 – 23 February 2013 – Days of Seashells

In celebration of Istria’s delicious sea food, restaurants throughout northwest Istria offer inspired menus with a minimum of four shell-based dishes at Days of Seashells. Culinary delicacies such as white truffles and award winning olive oils are carefully worked into recipes with Istrian scallops, mussels, sea truffles and oysters.

13- 17 February 2013 – Zagreb Boat Show

World producers will gather in February to present sailing boats, speedboats, kayaks, marine engines, yachts, jet skis and more, to celebrate Zagreb’s 21st Boat Show. Experience Croatia’s nautical tourism and be wowed at the new trends, designs and styles showcased.
