Croatian athletes at Pelham Hotel during London 2012 Olympics

Pelham Hotel in South Kensington is the official Olympic house for Croatia and will be broadcasting the games live, as well as hosting a range of events and interviews with Croatian athletes. As one of the official sponsors of the Croatian Olympic team, the Croatian National Tourist Board will also be at Pelham Hotel during the games.

New Jet2 Flights and Holidays from Newcastle for 2013

Jet2 are expanding their Croatia offering with new routes to the beautiful resort of Pula on the Adriatic coast. Flights will operate twice a week from Newcastle airport starting from just £47, while Jet2holidays can be booked from as little as a £60 deposit. Among the range of hotels available is the amazing Hotel Lone – Croatia’s newest design hotel.

New Cycling Tour

Specialist activity travel agent Headwater is offering new eight-day tours which take in  the sights along the Istrian peninsula. The ‘Coastal Croatia’ tour starts from £1,418 per person, including flights from Gatwick to Pula, transfers, hotel accommodation and some meals. This coincides with a push by local tourist boards of the Istria region to make the region Europe’s cycling tourism capital.

Grab a beer in Zagreb

To mark a 120 year history, Zagreb Brewery Museum opened in the Croatian capital last month. The museum allows visitors to learn about the history of brewing in Croatia and the production process. Visitors can also view an art exhibit of historic beer bottle designs, labels and advertisements.

 

Events and Festivals

6 – 12 August 2012 – Senj Summer Carnival

In its 41st year, the Senj Summer Festival is the most important event of the year for locals. Kicking off on 6th August, the carnival lasts the whole week, with non-stop carnival games, street and dance performances, pavement painting and much more. The carnival parade, with as many as 3000 masked revellers, is undoubtedly the highlight of the whole week.

7 – 10 August 2012 – Terraneo Music Festival

Returning for its second year on August 7th, Terraneo offers the chance to listen to some of Europe’s biggest acts by the beautiful Croatian sea. Last year over 30,000 people descended on the city of Sibenik and this year will be even bigger with over 120 acts already confirmed. Taking place over four days on seven stages, performers include The Roots, Thievery Corporation, The xx, The Vaccines, Friendly Fires, The Ting Tings, and Groove Armada. Four day tickets are available from £45.

17 – 23 August 2012 – Days of Diocletian

Diocletian’s Palace is at the heart of Split’s glorious history. Beginning on the 17th August the citizens of Split transform the town back to the days of Emperor Diocletian. Participants dress in the traditional attire of togas and tunics. Vintage carriages will pass along the waterfront, taking Emperor Diocletian and his suite to the Peristile, where the emperor addresses his citizens as he once did. The narrow streets of Split are filled with colourful stalls serving local delicacies and handicrafts.
