“Nikola Tesla” memorial centre was opened five years ago in Smiljan, as a special part of Lika Gospić museum, marking the 150th birthday of the world famous and acknowledged scientist, Nikola Tesla. At the centre, visitors can enter the world of a genius who began his research at this exact place thus changing the world.

The life path of Nikola Tesla began in Smiljan, the village which inspired his first ideas which later on developed into great inventions. The permanent exhibition in Tesla`s birth house is presented by document matter, mostly unused up until now. The life path and the genius of this great inventor are introduced here by picture, word and sound. With the help of modern technology visitors can travel through Tesla`s life and the time he lived in. Tesla`s turbine engine is exhibited in the stream that runs through the house and between the two platforms floats the miniature of the robotized boat as an example of remote controlling by radio waves. More than 900 of Tesla`s inventions are presented here in a very interesting way. As part of the exhibition space there is also a presentation hall, a gift shop and a children`s playroom where all the toys are made to resemble Tesla`s inventions. In the Centre, visitors can also watch a half an hour long documentary about Tesla`s life. Part of the theme park of the Memorial centre is made up from Tesla`s birth house, an outbuilding and the church of St. Peter and St. Paul. The Nikola Tesla Memorial centre has been proclaimed the best cultural facility in Croatia.
