Stari Grad - New luxury hotel and villas on the most beautiful island

24 July 2012

Hvar, Stari Grad
The tourist board of Split-Dalmatia County recently reported that Arqaam Capital Investment Fund from Dubai is planning to build a five star hotel with a capacity between 150 and 200 rooms and about a hundred luxury villas worth 100 million euro, near Stari Grad on the island of Hvar. The investment should be implemented as early as next year, and investors from the United Arab Emirates already purchased 16 acres of land during 2008 and 2009.

The complex with a capacity of 800 beds, located in the old harbour, will be managed by South Africa's chain Kerzner International Resorts, which also manages resorts in the Bahamas, the Maldives and Mauritius, Dubai, Mexico, Morocco and South Africa.

Along with a hotel and villas, this luxury complex of the highest category will contain a restaurant, a wellness centre, recreational facilities, shops and service facilities.

The project should be completely incorporated into the Mediterranean ambiance, but will also be stylish and environmentally sensitive, which means it will use passive solar systems and renewable energy.

Stari Grad is situated on the island of Hvar, considered by many to be one of the top ten most beautiful islands in the world. Back in 384 BC, the town was named Faros and was founded by the ancient Greeks from the island of Paros, who arrived in the bay of the old town. Numerous monuments testify about the turbulent ancient past of the city and can be seen at many points during a walk through the old town as well as in the museums.
