The widely known Special Hospital for Medical Rehabilitation of respiratory diseases and musculoskeletal system Thalassotherapy, which is visited in Crikvenica by many guests from around the world, will in the next two years completely change its look and enrich its offer. Around a million kuna will be invested in its refurbishmentl. Remaining from the old hospital will only be the name, tradition and expert staff who will get a new, functional and modern hospital. The first step of redesign began last year, and should be completed by the middle of this year. Almost 19 million kuna has been invested in the Lovorka accommodation unit, in which there will be seven four-star apartments.
Also almost completed is the reconstruction of the Smiljka accommodation facility, with a capacity of 60 beds, and the construction of a new hall for physical rehabilitation in which the users, thanks to glass walls, will be able to feel as if they are exercising outdoors. Also expected is the renovation of the Dalmacija accommodation unit, the construction of a new reception and the upgrading of three multi-purpose halls and a medical tract, worth 23 million kuna. The first floor would be reconstructed, the second floor torn down and three floors would be added.
The restored building of Dalmacija will house new medical technology, expand the area for physical therapy and increase the capacity.
Thalassotherapy will still have 300 beds, since there are no plans for increasing capacity, but improving quality.
The hospital is located in Crikvenica, a town situated in the Kvarner Bay, 33 kilometers from Rijeka. The town of Crikvenica is situated on the 15 km long sea Riviera with a row of almost connected small tourist resorts:, Selce, Crikvenica, Dramalj and Jadranovo.
Tourism on the Crikvenica Riviera has a tradition of more than one hundred years, and one of its major segments is health tourism which Thalassotherapy will greatly contribute to.
