According to prices for a one day stay, Zagreb is in the ninth place among 40 cheapest cities in Europe for 2012, with 43.64 U.S. dollars per night. The cheapest is Sofia in Bulgaria and the most expensive is Zurich in Switzerland, recently announced the American Internet website Price of Travel, based on the research "European Backpacker Index for 2012".

Several elements are in fact graded: a night in a good hotel or hostel, two public transport rides, three meals a day, a visit to a famous sight and three local (cheaper) beers or wines.

Price of Travel website describes Zagreb as the capital city of Croatia that is rapidly developing, and which should be visited without delay. It notes that Zagreb is still a fairly inexpensive city by European standards, particularly in relation to neighboring Italy and that it is well worth stopping over when travelling to the Adriatic.

Sofia, with a total of $ 23.71 for a day, is the cheapest city for tourists among the 40 in Europe. In the second place is the Polish Krakow with $ 23.83, while Budapest in Hungary is third with $ 30.05.

On the list of cities with the highest rates per day in Europe are Zurich ($ 118.78), Oslo ($ 103.51) and Stockholm ($ 96.37).

The Price of Travel website was launched in 2010 and today has a database of travel expenses (with information on accommodation, transport, attractions, food and drinks offers and prices) for all major destinations around the world – as many as 110 of them for now.
