Waterfalls

On the face of it, Croatia and Brazil do not have many things in common but they are in fact very similar countries in a number of different ways. Big Brazil and little Croatia are rich in natural phenomena and landscapes, which by their beauty attract not only football lovers but also large numbers of nature lovers from all corners of the world.
One of Brazil's most well-known natural sights is the Cascata do Caracol with its waterfall which is over 120 metres tall. In Croatia you can see the other extreme, the waterfall on Dubrovnik's Ombla River which has a height of only 70 centimetres. This is the underground river which supplies drinking water to the most beautiful fortified city in the world, Dubrovnik. At the same time, the Ombla is the shortest river in the world with a length of only 300 metres. Brazilians do not have such a short river but they do have the biggest, most impressive of all rivers, the Amazon, which stretches a majestic 6800 kilometres.
The Plitvice Lakes are equally magnificent. They are a series of 16 lakes, which are linked by waterfalls, the most beautiful of which is the 'MilkaTrnina Waterfall'. The beauty of the Plitvice Lakes is one of the most well-known natural phenomena of Croatia and were amongst the first in the world to be proclaimed a World Natural Heritage site by UNESCO way back in 1979. Tourism to that destination started back in the 1960s and thus the world discovered very early on that unique European gem and its waterfalls.
Apart from Cascate do Caracol, Brazilians are also proud of the Serra do Cipo waterfalls, which form part of the national park of the same name. The majestic Iguacu waterfalls, located on the border with Brazil's arch footballing rival Argentina, are breathtaking in their grandeur.
Krka National Park is not breathtaking because of its size but it does fascinate because of its beauty. To be sure it must be emphasised that the Skradinski buk is the largest travertine limestone waterfall in Europe. It is made up of travertine cascades, islands and lakes. With a length of 800 metres, the river flows over 17 steps and creates an unforgettable image, which you simply must go and see with your own eyes.
You will need to invest more time if you wish to enjoy all of the listed Brazilian destinations, but it is certainly worth visiting and thoroughly exploring that corner of world. If your journey brings you to the Old Continent and to Croatia, you will have somewhat more time for a holiday because the destinations mentioned are only a few hours of pleasant driving apart from each other.
Of course, the best thing to do would be to visit both countries and discover for yourselves their natural beauty.
