The town of Zaprešić grew up not far from the north side of Zagreb. Many residents of Zagreb see it as their future home. This is was what the Croatian Ban Josip Jelačić decided in past times, as is visible in Novi dvori Jelačičevi, one of the best preserved feudal agricultural properties in Croatia. Nearby there are several castles - Januševec, Jakovlje, Laduč, Gornja Bistra, and many churches.
Zajarki lake with its fish pond and river Krapina are a real paradise for anglers, while Medvednica Nature Park provides excellent conditions for walkers, hikers and skiers. To the west of the town towards the Slovenian border there is the start of the tourist zone Po Sutli i Žumberku [Across Sutla and Žumberak].
With horse riding, paragliding, hang gliding, motocross, cycling, golf, great gastronomic offer, there are traditional events (Jelačić Days, Harvest Festival, etc.), which make this town interesting to visit.
