The Mediterranean as it once was
The Old Town, a first category monument, which is in fact a 15th century castle, is a constant reminder to Picoks (a legendary name for the people of Đurđevac) and its visitors of its turbulent history.

Several galleries are active within the Old Town, of which the most important one is the Donation of Ivan Lacković Croata. The river Drava flows only ten kilometres away from Đurđevac, and the entire area is rich with artificial lakes, ponds and wetland habitats that allow enjoyment in a variety of sports facilities, especially hunting and fishing. On the northern Bilogora slopes the valuable hands of the inhabitants have cultivated vineyards, and besides the attractive wine roads there are a number of weekend houses.

The most important cultural event throughout the County Koprivnica-Križevci is surely Picokijada, which has grown up on the famous legend of Picok which celebrates the courage and resourcefulness of the people of Đurđevac. They managed to hold their ground against the army of Ulama-Beg. His army had staked out the city in order to starve them into surrender, but the people of Đurđevac catapulted their last chicken into the air. Thinking that they had vast stocks of food, the army retreated and the people of Đurđevac still today celebrate this magnificent victory. Asides from a theatrical re-enactment of the legend about Picok, Picokijada offers a range of other events such as a procession of vehicles, cake exhibitions and many other things.
