Donji Miholjac

The cultural sites of the city include two castles previously owned by nobility. The so-called Older Miholjac Castle was built in 1818 by Baroness Maria Ana von Prandaua (born Pejačević).The other Miholjac beauty is a castle built in more recent times, belonging to the noble family Mailáth, with a beautiful English-type garden in the style of the English Tudors.

The most significant and largest park of Donji Miholjac is surely Veliki park (the Big Park) located within the Prandau-Mailath castle complex, and the city’s beauty is also enriched by the Matica hrvatska park, in the very centre of town, and the smaller park of Sveti Florijan (Saint Florian).

All of this gives this town on the Drava a romantic appearance, rarely encountered in lowland Slavonia. Close to the town is a popular excursion site for the inhabitants of Donji Miholjac - Stara Drava (the Old Drava). Hunting, which has a long tradition in these territories, is possible in the nearby forests, and fishing is possible in the river Drava and the fish pond. Not far away from Donji Miholjac is the protected bird reserve Podpanj, with 106 bird species, including some twenty species endangered in Europe.
