For over a century, every winter Turopolje Carnival, as well as the main carnival mascots, Žir (acorn), Luk (onion) and Pajcek (piggy), entertain the residents of Velika Gorica and Turopolje. This year we celebrate its 105th edition and the carnival festivities will culminate on 1st March when the traditional carnival parade passes the city, presenting individual masks and carnival groups, with a lively entertainment program to select the best mask. The grand parade will continue to the carnival tent behind the Open University where visitors can enjoy in rich gastronomic offer and the concert of Neno Belan and the group Fiumens. A day later, the 2nd of March, from 11 am, the children from the local kindergartens and primary schools will take the stage in the carnival tent and demonstrate the masks and choreography which they prepared. The Carnival Republic of Turopolje ends on Shrove Tuesday, the 4th March at 4 pm in front of the Museum of Turopolje when the Prince of the Carnival will be put on trial and the keys of the city will be returned to the mayor. Take advantage of Carnival events for pastime and fun and come to Velika Gorica with a mask on your face!
