Basic information

The Croatian literature has found one of its sanctuaries on the Island of Hvar. Every year, the Days of the Hvar Theatre, dedicated solely to our written word, take place in the town of Hvar. For those few days, Hvar is totally committed to the call of the footlights. Numerous plays are given on the stage of the old Hvar Theatre and many other sites in the town, and the common thread linking them all is that they are all adaptations of works by Croatian authors. In addition to their artistic side, the Days of Hvar Theatre have their scientific side, as the central event of the entire manifestation is a conference dealing with issues concerning our literature. The results of the conference, with participants being experts from across the world, are published later in a specially edited Collection of Papers. The sun and the mild climate are just an additional motive for you to learn more about the literature of a people that have many things to write about.
