Kulturarv – Dalmatien - Dubrovnik

Byen, som i sig selv er et stort monument, er under UNESCO´s beskyttelse. Med sin 1940 m lange bymur med bastioner, med hovedgaden Stradun, Orlandos søjle, gotiske renæssance paladser som Sponza, Rektors Palads og de berømte kirker og klostre, er Dubrovnik uden konkurrence et særligt kapitel i den kroatiske kulturarv. Engang var den en del af Dubrovnik Republikken, sammen med den nærliggende halvø Pelješac, som også har en 5,5 km lang bymur, der omkranser halvøens hovedstad, stenbyen Ston. Opstået på resterne af en græsk koloni, er øen Korčula og byen af samme navn, hvis gader er bygget i form af sildeben, en ægte ædelsten blandt byer. Udover sit traditionelle ridder-fægtnings spil ”Moreška” er byen i dag mest kendt som Marco Polos fødeby. På den sydligste del af kysten ligger øen Mljet med sit benediktiner kloster fra det 12. århundrede, bygget på en lille bitte ø, i midten af en sø.
